Good morning all, it's Monday November 17. We are now on a third day of federal Border Patrol actions in North Carolina. Charlotte-area and statewide news and information organizations have been working non-stop to document what is happening, from violent arrests by masked and heavily armed agents to community members, businesses and groups organizing in response.

We are learning from colleagues in Chicago that what they experienced far exceeded any prior protest or vigil coverage. This is a different type of operation that may expand, accelerate, jeopardize safety and disrupt lives for weeks to come. Preparation is vital. NC Local is here to help.

Safety training

Join us at Noon today for Risk Mitigation 101/Mitigación de riesgos 101, a training by IWMF safety experts for journalists who will be covering things on the ground and their managers/editors. Interpretation in Spanish. You must register in advance. Co-organized with Charlotte Journalism Collaborative with support from the NC Local News Lab Fund.

What do you need?

NC Editorial Director Laura is coordinating with news leaders in Charlotte and across the state to understand needs and where NC Local can best fill gaps in coverage. Have ideas or questions, get in touch at laura@nclocal.org.
