Welcome to the NC Local community! You're receiving this because you may have attended our event at UNC-Asheville last week to honor the region's resilience, or you signed up for our email newsletters.
Just to reintroduce ourselves: We're a new nonprofit news organization committed to delivering public service journalism that helps residents of North Carolina understand how key statewide issues affect their lives and communities. We also support existing newsrooms by collaborating with them and offering them content and resources to help them serve their communities.
Our Commitment: Beyond the Anniversary
We know that for many people in Western NC, the challenges of recovery from major events don't simply end when the one-year anniversary coverage fades. Recovery is an ongoing, complex and often years-long process.
We're sticking with the story of recovery to help break down the complexities. We believe that a healthy community depends on having a dedicated source for accountability and clarity. That's why we're making a long-term commitment to our region. |

Introducing Lilly Knoepp, Starting in October
We are officially welcoming Lilly Knoepp as our new reporter dedicated entirely to helping residents in Western North Carolina understand how statewide issues and state government decisions affect the region.
As a native of Franklin and a longtime Western North Carolina resident, Lilly understands the region. She most recently served at Blue Ridge Public Radio, covering Western North Carolina from 2018 to 2025. Lilly brings a wealth of experience to the new role, including work as an assistant editor at Women@Forbes and digital producer of the Forbes podcast network. She holds a master's degree in international journalism from The City University of New York and earned a double major from UNC-Chapel Hill in religious studies and political science.
Lilly joins our team in late October, and we're eager for you to meet her. |

An invitation to connect
Listening to our communities is at the core of what NC Local is about. We'll host an in-person reception to introduce you to Lilly soon, but for now we'd love to hear your ideas and questions. What issues are important to you right now? What questions do you have about decisions being made in Raleigh about recovery or other issues? |
